6 Degrees Muskoka

Six Degrees gallery brings history to life in art exhibit

The walls of the old Queen’s Hotel will have an opportunity to tell their story this summer, with the help of Muskoka’s arts community.

From June 24 through to July, 6 Degrees Muskoka in Bracebridge will feature the show If These Walls Could Talk.

Through the restoration process of the 6 Degrees site, which is the historic Queen’s Hotel building in Bracebridge, owners Don and Jen Skinner saved various pieces of the building to be put to a second use.

“If these walls could talk is a chance for new stories; our renovation is a chance for a whole new chapter,” says Jen Skinner.

Using historic building materials salvaged from the Queen’s Hotel, artists are creating work that will be on display in June. The artists will be using a direct physical link of the elements of the past; hand forged nails, Muskoka hemlock studs and tin ceiling panels from the dining room.

“Since 1885, this noble, red brick structure has stood, overlooking the development and evolution of Bracebridge,” says Jen adding that the Queen’s Hotel dining doom was the spot for banquets of visiting dignitaries and the backdrop for celebrations of local interest.

“We have heard and read of these events. This time let’s listen to another medium – an artful one, a thought provoking one,” she says.
